Metallic Holiday Tablescape

(The following post is written by Lauren Burge, my very own, incredibly talented sister who will be a contributing author on Theres nothing I love more than adding a little sparkle to a tablescape and the holidays give me that perfect excuse! I would guild everything if I could! Metallics are hot right now. In fact, they are always hot this time of year so why not incorporate them every change I get!? This table scape allowed me to mix in several metallic tones and hues along with some fun textures. I always love to work in my basic white china, crystal, and linens into a dinner setting. I change it up by vamping up the centerpieces, candles, and changing out unique place card settings. diptic table The most simple and classic center piece for any holiday is simply filling any bowl or urn with ornaments. It won't break the bank either! You can set the tone of the table with the colors, textures and amount of sparkle you choose to fill with. I went with a crystal punch bowl to create a fancier look and tie in my crystal glasses. Tea light candles are also an easy elegant element to add to any table. You can find mini holders just about anywhere. My go to stores are Target, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, and Michael's. 2014-12-28 06.07.152014-12-28 06.08.20 Greenery is a holiday staple. Did you know that the origin of greenery started long ago when people would hang greenery over their doors to catch the snow from falling on the stoop? It's interesting, but I don't really need greenery to be functional in Texas, but I do love to incorporate it into any holiday decor that I can! The greenery in this scape is actually two door hangers I found at Hobby Lobby. I added in a few flowers, ornaments and sequined fillers that matched my color scheme. 2014-12-28 07.19.17 Place mats can also change up a table look. These are gold beaded mats that I've had for years. They really helped set a more elegant tone on the table with the metallic texture. For a more casual setting, you could use a cloth mat, charger or even a fun patterned paper beneath the place setting. 2014-12-28 06.08.03 Finally, the place card. This is one of my favorite touches to a table. I love finding new creative ways to display a person's name. What better way to make a party feel personal? For this table, these card holders are actually just gold ornaments from Dollar Tree. I cut off the ornament string, wrote our names in gold on a piece of paper and placed on the top plate. It reminds me of a gold sprayed hydrangea flower, except I can actually pull these out next year! 2014-12-28 06.03.25 Table scapes can be as simple or complex as you want them. Remember that just about anything flies these days. I'm all about following dinner etiquette, but know that when it comes to decor, if you like it, or it makes a party more personal, do it! Guests will not always remember what they saw at a table, but they will remember how they felt. 2014-12-28 07.18.14 Happy Hosting!! -Lauren
